Rutherford Law Office has been locally owned and operated for two decades. Attorney Sherri Rutherford practices extensively in the area of Elder Law and Estate Planning for seniors. She believes in using a comprehensive approach for her clients to devise a complete estate plan.
Her areas of practice involve the use of Wills and Trusts, Powers of Attorney and Health Care documents, Deeds and Nursing Home/ Long Term Care planning, to insure her clients’ needs and wishes are met. She practices frequently in matters of Probate Administration, Guardianship, and Trust Administration.
Attorney Rutherford is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association committees on Elder Law and Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. She frequently speaks about issues of Elder Law to such groups as the AARP, Teachers Retirement, Public Employees Retirement System, Senior Citizens Center, Alzheimer’s Group and Kiwanis. She was the host of the radio show “Rutherford’s Elder Law Workshop” on station WCHI. Attorney Rutherford served on the Board of Trustees for the Area Agency on Aging District 7.
Attorney Rutherford served on Ross County’s Senior Abuse Task Force and worked on the planning committee that brought a spring conference to Chillicothe. Attorney Rutherford assisted the Ross County Senior Advisory Council in obtaining a 501(c)(3), non-profit tax status. She was responsible for obtaining the same tax status for the local SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) Council.
In addition, she has served the citizens of Ross County as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney as well as Assistant Law Director for the City of Chillicothe. She is currently serving her second term as the City of Chillicothe’s Law Director. She is a former adjunct professor for Ohio University, teaching in the areas of law and police technology.
Attorney Rutherford completed her undergraduate studies at Ohio University and Juris Doctor from Capital University. She lives with her husband, Ronnie. They raised three sons in Chillicothe and are enjoying being grandparents.

More About Carrie
Carrie grew up in Bucyrus, Ohio, and moved to Chillicothe in 2008. Prior to practicing in Chillicothe, she worked for the City of Mansfield Law Director’s Office, and interned with the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office in Dayton, Ohio.
Carrie received her undergraduate education at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, and her juris doctorate at University of Dayton School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio, the United States Southern District Federal Court, and the United States Supreme Court.
She currently practices in Ross, Pickaway, Vinton and Pike Counties. She is able to serve your legal needs in divorce or dissolution actions, custody actions, estate planning and estate administration, civil ligation, and landlord tenant actions. Carrie currently serves as an Assistant Law Director for the City of Chillicothe, and currently prosecutes cases in Municipal Court.
She is also an adjunct professor at Ohio University- Chillicothe, instructing in their law enforcement technology program and the Southern Ohio Police Training Institute. She lives locally with her husband, Ricky, a corrections officer. They have a daughter, Bexley and a rescue dog, Bella. In her spare time, Carrie serves the community through various facets, including serving on the Board of Directors for First Capital Enterprises, training current and perspective law enforcement officers, and volunteering through various other organizations.
